New Experience: Nature Remix
Big changes are happening in the Imaginopolis gallery. In mid-October, we opened the doors to Nature Remix, an all-new experience where visitors are transported into a secret forest where everything is recognizable, but with a whimsical twist. Visitors will discover out-of-scale animals, plants and insects as they explore the gallery.
Visitors use costumes to turn themselves into unique creatures, pretend to bake sweet treats in a squirrel’s house and create a home from oversized leaves and fish scales. This quirky but inspiring environment is the perfect place for children to create their own world and tell their own stories.
Here’s a brief overview of what visitors can expect to see and do in Nature Remix.
The Thicket
As visitors enter the gallery, they come upon a mysterious thicket filled with twinkling lights. Crawl through the thicket’s hidden tunnel and find small holes to discover rolled up messages, stories and maps created by other visitors. Stop by the nearby desk to write your own note to leave for future explorers. Wavy walls covered in “grass” offer visitors a great place to sit and daydream.
What’s Left Behind
Beyond the thicket, visitors discover giant objects on the forest floor, showing what gets left behind as nature moves through life cycles. Climb in and around a large skeletal structure, using shimmering scales, giant feathers, leaves and more to build and construct around, in and over the skeleton.
Bird’s Eye View
A giant bird peers through the window looking in on the gallery and the nest below. Visitors can become baby birds and nestle into the human-sized nest. Overhead, colorful swaying leaves give the feeling of being in a tree.
Lotus Seed Pod
Duck behind the giant lotus seed pod to visit the whimsical kitchen of grandma squirrel. A bubbling cauldron invites visitors to create their own concoctions, while the dining table is set with plates and cups ready for afternoon tea or dinner. Along the walls, the space is decorated with pictures of the squirrel family and homey squirrel art. Overhead, a chandelier made from sticks and acorns warms the space.
Nature DJ
By pressing buttons on an interactive sound board, visitors can make their own nature soundtrack by combining layers of nature sounds like owls hooting, thunderstorms, fish jumping, crickets, cicadas and waterfalls.
Nature Remix is now open in the Imaginopolis gallery on the museum’s second floor. Plan your visit now and get tickets at www.mcm.org/tickets.
