Special exhibit based on the hit animated film makes its Twin Cities debut

SAINT PAUL, MINN.  May 17, 2023 – “Emotions at Play with Pixar’s Inside Out,” the first interactive exhibit based on Disney and Pixar’s hit animated feature “Inside Out,” will make its Twin Cities debut when it opens at Minnesota Children’s Museum on May 20.

The exhibit is filled with interactive experiences that help visitors understand the important role emotions, memory and imagination play in our everyday lives. Hands-on and digital experiences focus on the five emotions featured in the award-winning film: Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust and Fear. Children and families learn to recognize emotions and explore how we can express and manage our own emotions.

“This is a great time to offer families the opportunity to experience this fun and rewarding exhibit,” said Dianne Krizan, president of Minnesota Children’s Museum. “We all know the past few years have been challenging for kids and caregivers, so we’re heartened to provide space for families to talk about emotional development in an approachable way and with characters they recognize and love.”

In this exhibit, visitors will:

  • Step into Headquarters to explore the range and intensity of emotions at the Control Panel
  • Explore some of the ways we show how we feel with our faces and bodies at the Emotions Mirrors
  • Think about an important memory and how it made them feel – or show how they’re feeling in the moment – by creating a glowing Memory Sphere
  • Use their imagination to create a story and perform it at Dream Productions
  • Work to keep the train on track – What feelings do you have when you control and balance the Train of Thought?
  • Explore how emotions work together as they stack and balance the Emotion Blocks

“Emotions at Play with Pixar’s Inside Out” will be open for play at Minnesota Children’s Museum from May 20 to Sept. 4 in the Special Exhibits Gallery on the fourth floor of the museum. Admission to the exhibit is included with general admission. Museum admission is $16 to $19 per person for ages 1 to 101. Museum members get in free. Tickets are available at https://mcm.org/tickets.

The exhibit is presented locally by United Healthcare. The exhibit was developed by Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh in collaboration with Pixar Animation Studios.
