Zooming Ahead – Cardboard Sled Race Recap
Whether they had been working on their sleds for weeks, a few days, or only a few hours, all participants created their homemade sleds using cardboard. Participants used all their STEAM skills (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) to make a sled that not only looked good but also could make it down the hill. Now in its fourth year, the Cardboard Sled Race was held at Rochester Golf & Country Club.
Playful spirit was definitely abound, with entries in all shapes and sizes and colors. There an airplane, a unicorn, and a rollercoaster car. We loved seeing what you came up with! The cost was $15 per sled and all proceeds went to Minnesota Children’s Museum Rochester.
Prizes were given in four categories. Here is a list of the 2017 winners:
- Fasted Sled – #8 Bakery Bandits
- Furthest Distance – #3 Black Mamba
- Best Design – #4 It’s so Fluffy!
- Best Team Spirit – #5 Flying Fortress
Congrats to all involved, and a special thank you to People’s Food Co-op for providing the prizes. We look forward to seeing you next year. Get working on those sleds!
The race happened as part of Rochester WinterFest, a two-week long celebration that promotes wintertime activities and also raises funds and awareness for local nonprofits.
