A bill approved by the Minnesota House of Representatives cuts critical funding Minnesota Children’s Museum needs to create new exhibits, programs and other experiences.

The result: Fewer ways for your family to play and grow together through hands-on activities that spark joy, laughter and wonder.

Tell your representatives you want the funding restored.

For more than 15 years, Minnesota Children’s Museum has received funding through the state Arts and Culture Heritage Fund, commonly known as the Legacy Amendment.

We’ve used these public dollars to create many of the hands-on playful learning experiences your family knows and loves. A few recent examples:

    • Shipwreck Adventures: New permanent exhibit
    • Our World: New vet clinic and pet grooming center
    • Imaginopolis: Re-theming into Nature Remix
    • Monsters on Summer Vacation
    • The Studio: Remodeling and changing the activities
    • The Backyard: The Mud Zone

If the museum loses Legacy funding, here’s what you might not see in the coming years:

    • Improvements to the water experiences in Our World
    • New storytelling theme in Imaginopolis
    • Updates to the baby and toddler experiences in Sprouts
    • New experiences in Creativity Jam
    • Staff-facilitated programs throughout the museum

Legacy funding also enables us to provide access to the museum for organizations that serve families in need.

The museum’s annual Legacy funding has been essentially flat for nearly 15 years: This year, the Senate bill keeps the museum’s funding at $500,000. The House bill reduces dedicated funding to $0. A bipartisan conference committee will resolve the difference.

This is where you come in. Please contact your House and Senate representatives to tell them to support the higher amount in the Senate bill.

This is an urgent matter: Lawmakers will finish their work soon.
