Engineer Fun and Learning This Summer

Keep your budding scientists and engineers engaged this summer with STEM workshops from The Works Museum. Designed for kids ages 5 to 8, each small group workshop is led by an expert educator from The Works Museum and encourages hands-on learning and fun.

Lightning Bugs

Learn about the flow of electricity and hook up different circuits to create a lightning bug to take home.

Glow in the Dark Slime

Experiment with chemical changes. Make a tub of slimy polymer that glows in the dark.

Light and Kaleidoscopes

Experiment with reflecting and absorbing of light. Design and build a colorful kaleidoscope to take home.

Practice the Engineering Design Process and use a glue gun to construct a small catapult. Find out how far you can fling an object.

Workshop FAQs

Does the workshop fee include admission to the museum?

No, museum admission is not included. If you would like to play in the museum before or after the workshop, admission must be purchased separately.

Can I leave the museum while my child is in a workshop?

No. Workshops are drop-off, but parents must remain on site for the duration of the workshop. Parents will be able to wait in the museum café, but cannot explore the museum without an admission ticket (purchased separately).

Who will be leading the workshop?
Each workshop is led by an expert educator from The Work Museum, a hands-on kids museum all about engineering located in Bloomington.
How long does the workshop last?

Each workshop is 45 minutes long.

How many children will be in each workshop?

Workshops are designed to be hands-on and interactive. Therefore, workshops are capped at a maximum of 20 registrants.

What ages are the workshops for? Is there an age requirement?

Workshops are designed for kids ages 5 to 8. Children who have not yet attended kindergarten should be comfortable in a classroom setting and able to work independently. Children must be at least 5 years old to participate.

What happens if my child gets sick or has a problem?

All parents will be required to fill out a contact form at drop-off. If your child gets sick or has an issue that needs attention, we will contact you at the information provided.

Discounted Workshops for Income-Qualified Participants

Income-qualified families can register for a workshop for $5. Any family receiving benefits through EBT, WIC or free/reduced school lunch programs is eligible. Anyone booking All Play workshop tickets should be prepared to show proof of eligibility upon checking in.
