Peek Behind the Construction Walls

Bob Ingrassia, Vice President of External Relations

3 Nov. 2016

Every day brings more progress on our expansion and renovation project in downtown St. Paul.

Some of the changes are easy to see. From the outside, visitors can’t help but notice the big glass addition that will house an awesome four-story climber called The Scramble.

Inside, adults and kids are having a blast engineering their own fun in Forces at Play in the 3M Gallery, the first of our new permanent exhibits.

Much of the progress isn’t visible because it’s happening behind all those construction walls. Crews are busy installing another elevator, building dramatic entrances to new exhibits, preparing the atrium for a new main staircase and tackling a bunch of other projects.

The construction is marching along on schedule. We’ll be counting down soon to our closure period, which begins Dec. 5 and runs until mid-April.

In the meantime, take a look at these photos of how the construction project is coming along.

You can learn more about the project on our expansion and renovation page.
