Points of Light Accolades

We are proud to share with you that Minnesota Children’s Museum has been certified by volunteer network, Points of Light, as a Service Enterprise. Points of Light is the world’s largest organization devoted to volunteering, and we are thrilled to be the first museum in the nation to receive this distinctive honor.

Points of Light distinguishes Service Enterprises as organizations “that deeply integrate volunteers to successfully deliver on their missions.” Research by national program and evaluation firm, TCC Group, found that organizations that effectively manage their volunteers exceed other organizations when it comes to adaptability, sustainability, and allotment of resources.

In preparation, Minnesota Children’s Museum developed an action plan by completing an extensive assessment and over 20 hours of training, consulting and internal planning to better incorporate volunteers in our daily operations. “Basically it means we are best in practice when it comes to volunteer management,” said Volunteer Services Manager Kate Errickson. “Volunteers are going to have a high-quality experience and staff members can accomplish more.” In other words, we are able to advance our mission by efficiently managing the time and talent of our volunteers.
