Behind the Walls: Expansion Update

Exciting progress!

With the St. Paul museum closed, the big construction wall in the atrium has come down. Another exciting milestone: The new main stairwell leading from the ground floor to the fourth floor is almost complete!

Do you remember movin’ and groovin’ under the soaring brightly colored walls in the atrium? In a few short months, you’ll be walking through the new box office into a light and airy second-floor gathering space with comfy chairs to plan your explorations.

From here, you can let your imaginations run wild in Imaginopolis, grab a snack in the new café, play with your little ones in Sprouts — the new bigger and better toddler gallery — and use real tools in Creativity Jam. On the fourth floor, you can stop by a light rail car on your way to Our World and create in the new maker space, The Studio.

When all is said and done, you’ll encounter 10 new permanent exhibits, plus a traveling gallery. Plus another elevator, more bathrooms and, of course, the café with coffee bar.

Check out our progress via the photos below. You’ll see the portal entrance into Imaginopolis, the view into the box office and the fantastic new stairs. Enjoy!
